TANYA KARIM
Architect, Partner, Tanya Karim NR Khan & Associates

Tanya Karim graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1990.She is the co-founder of Tanya Karim N. R. Khan & Associates and has been practicing for 16 years.
She emphasizes a professional commitment in design and project management that consistently results in superior project yield and responsible for developing new business and maintaining effective client relationship.

She is the Founder member of UW2SDA (Urban Water, Wastelands Society & Design Alliance) an international organization dedicated to research of urban wetland.
She is Adjunct Faculty of the Department of Architecture, University of Asia Pacific, Dhaka. She is an advisor, in Shanto Marium University of Creative Technology, and in ‘Chitran’ Interior Design School, Dhaka.
She is a member in the Executive Committee of WAEPA(Women Architects, Engineers & Planners Association).
She is a Board Member of the “Presidency University Foundation” in Dhaka.
She has presented papers on “The Begunbari Experience, Environment or Economics” at SAARCH conference. She was an Invited Presenter in the Symposium on “Water in South Asia” at Rhode Island School of Design, Rhode Island, USA. She Organized and presented in the Dhaka Workshop 2005, on “Sustainable solutions for the management of urban wetlands, and on “Wetlands in and around Dhaka”, at rotary club. She had attended the Arcasia conference in Pakistan and presented a paper on “Low Cost Housing Schemes in Bangladesh.
She is the reviewer of PROTIBESH a publication of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. She is a recipient of the IAB Award and her practice has won national and international competitions and her work has been published widely at both home and abroad.

She has made several architectural tours in India, Singapore, UAE, France, UK, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Bhutan, USA, Oman and Thailand which enhanced her professional experience to a global dimension.

- Recipient of Prime Minister’s award for contribution towards “Beautification of Dhaka city, 2006” in October 2006.

- 1st prize in National Design Competition for Bangla Academy Building, Dhaka.

- Recipient of IAB award 2000 (Institute of Architects Bangladesh) for excellence in residential design. (Residence of Mr. & Mrs Anisul Huq at Banani, Dhaka.)

- Second Prize for “Design of Mausoleum of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman” at Zia Udyan, Shere-BanglaNagar, Dhaka in 2004.

- Third Prize for design of Shaheed Zia Memorial Complex at Kalurghat , Chittagong in 2005.

- Honorable mention for commercial project “ The Massive Lighting” showroom by IAB(Institute of architects Bangladesh) at Mohakhali,Dhaka.

- Second Prize in design competition of National Language Bhaban in 2004.

- Second place in design competition for Uttara Club Ltd.

- Recipient of Dia Award for “Best Fashion Design” sponsored by the Ministry of Cultural affairs, Govt. of France.
